Chateau Speedway Banquet 2024 at Lansing Corners!*

Chateau Raceway 6/17/16

June 17, 2016  |  by Matthew Grage

Stock Car racing action resumed Friday Night at Chateau Raceway in Lansing after three weeks of rainouts but not without Mother Nature keeping officials watching the radar screen. As action got underway radar was showing rain about 60 miles out but it never made it to the track and the full nights action ran off without any moisture from the heavens interfering. 84 cars filled the pits for the nights action with 18 drivers making there first appearance of the season at the track.

Leading off the night were the Pure Stocks with Matt Brooks of Austin and Jason Newkirk of Austin taking home the opening heats of the evening. The two than battled in the second half of the night for the classes feature win with plenty of good side by side racing action between them. The pair along with Jim Briggs of Waseca went three wide at the start of the race with the advantage going to Brooks as they completed lap one. Newkirk took control of second and kept the pressure on Matt as he kept trying to use the inside line to make the pass for the lead. Jason was never able to make the move to get to the front but ran a nice race to come home second behind Matt who scored his first feature win of the season as well as completing the sweep on the night. Stacy Krohnberg of Walters moved up to third as the race rolled on caution free. Brady Krohnberg had a nice run after starting back in row five to work his way up; to fourth ahead of Brandon Shaner of Owatonna who also took the green from a fifth row starting spot.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were the second feature of the night and they rolled off a clean caution free main event as well with Garitt Wytaske of Lansing and Brayten Cisneros of Blooming Prairie putting on a good show. The two took the green side by side in the front row with Wytaske getting the advantage off the outside. Brayten stuck right with him sticking his nose in there lap after lap challenging for the lead but Garitt was able to hold his line and hit his marks for 18 laps and came home with his first feature win of the year. Cisneros held on for second ahead of Ryan Goergen of Stacyville Iowa. Dan Wheeler of Savage and Jeremy Misgen of Ellendale rounded out the top five. Wheeler had a heat win earlier in the night as did Cisneros.

Mike Blowers of Waseca controlled the WISSOTA Street Stocks for the night as he scored his fourth feature win in as many shows at the track this year. Mike moved from row four to the front on lap 10 of the 15 lap event and pulled away to the win. Danny Hanson of Alma Wisconsin was the hard charger of the race as he started last car in the 12 car feature and drove thru the field all the way up to a second place finish. Fred Prudoehl of Winona who started on pole finished third ahead of Kyle King of Hastings. Blowers also took the win in his heat while the Mike Chisholm of Osage Iowa grabbed the classes other heat win.

The USRA B Mod feature was slowed by numerous cautions. Derek Clement of Spring Valley and Kadden Kath of Owatonna started front row and dueled through the early laps with each leading at some point. Clement got the jump on the initial start but that was wiped out by a quick caution. Kath got the advantage on the next restart and held the lead until Clement went to the front on lap 6. That lasted until lap 10 when Kadden got the better of it off a restart and went back to the point but that lasted just four laps as something let go in his car and and trail of smoke and fluids followed him into turn three ending his night. That fluid sent several cars spinning and Clements race ended up ending early as well as a couple others. When the dust finally settled after the final restart it was Kylie Kath who started back in row four running his string of feature wins to open the year to four. Alex Williamson of Rushford and Mark Wytaske of Austin battled it out for second the final laps with Alex getting that spot. A couple drivers who started deep in the field made nice runs into the top five with Jayden Larson of Mankato finishing fourth ahead of Taylor Ausrud of Hayfield. The classes heat wins went to Anthony Condit of Austin, Dustin Kruse of Brandon South Dakota and Ausrud.

In USRA A Mod action Brandon Davis of Medford scored his third feature win of the year at the track. Joe Horgdahl of Kasson lead the races first five laps before Davis swung by him for the lead. Josh Angst of Winona and Jason Cummins of New Richland started side by side back in row four and never got far from each other as they worked through the field to finish second and third. Horgdahl held on for fourth ahead of Greg Pfeifer JR of Brownsdale,. Pfeifer and Cummins picked up the classes heat wins.

There was a little bit of drama to wrap up the night in the Hornet Feature. Cody Hyatt of Waseca grabbed he early lead ahead of Nick Sillman of Minnesota Lake and Ralph Hanks of Waseca and three were battling for the top spot when Jordan Loeffler of Waseca got into the wall causing an early caution. Hanks was expecting a double wide restart and pulled along side Sillman for the restart while the rest of the field was single file. Well he made the move for the lead but at the next caution he was penalized two spots for essentially jumping the previous restart. That gave the lead to Bobby Blowers of Waseca with Jerry Coopman of Mankato restarting second, Coopmans car didn’t come up to speed on the restart and Hanks jumped to second and than went to work on Blowers trying to get back to the front. Ralph finally made the outside line work for him and with two laps to go he went back to the front and came home with his first feature win of the season. Blowers wound up second ahed of Sillman. George Schrumpf of Rochester put on a nice show as he came from the last position in the 13 car field on the start to finish fourth. Heat winners for the class were Coopman and Blowers.

The track also made an announcement that the 19th Annual Mike Guttormson Memorial make up date has been set. The race was rained out on Memorial Day weekend and the new date will be the final Friday of July, the 29th. It was also announced that the USMTS touring Modified series will highlight the nights race card for the Memorial event.
