For the second week in a row Chateau Raceway in Lansing had a little extra for the fans. After having NASCAR Driver Michael Mcdowell plus fireworks a week ago the track hosted the Traditional Sprint Cars from the Upper Midwest Sprint car Series. UMSS has 3 Sprint Car Series, the Winged 360 Sprints and the Micro Sprint Cars to go along with the Traditionals which were on hand Friday Night. The Traditionals are the non-wing Sprints. A field of 13 sprints from Wisconsin and Minnesota along with the regular six classes of cars made for a full night of racing action.
In the much anticipated Sprint Car action it was Rick Kobs of Deer Park Wisconsin who took home the honors with his series leading 7th Feature win of the season. In doing so he also took over the points lead for the series from James Giossi of New Richmond Wisconsin. Giossi managed just a tenth place finish. Ty Sampair of Somerset Wisconsin came home second after starting on the front row. Ty had a rough start and had to fight to hold onto the top five for several laps before working his way back up to second on the last lap of the 25 lap main event. Kobs meanwhile rocketed out of the inside of row two on the start and went right to the front where he stayed. Jake Kouba of Minneapolis came home third followed by Scott Brandt of Andover and Johnny Parsons III of Owatonna. Parson came all the way from the outside of the sixth row to post the top 5 finish. Kobs posted a heat win as well on the night with a late pass for the win in that one after starting in the back of that field. The other heat win went to Mike Mueller of Stacy. In heat number one Hunter Custer of Chippewa Falls Wisconsin turned the fastest lap of the season so far at Chateau as he did the one-third mile oval in 15.917 seconds for an average speed of 75.390 miles per hour.
In the tracks other classes a few fresh faces showed up in victory lane at the end of the night. Hornet driver Patrick Wells of Faribault was making his first trip to the track this season and he finished it off with a thrilling feature win over Marissa Wolff of Janesville. Last weeks feature winner CJ Blowers of Waseca lead the first lap of the main event before Wolff took over the lead. With two laps to go Wells caught her and in a side by side dual ended up with the lead at the line. On the last lap however the two squared off again with Marissa crossing over to the bottom going into one to take the lead. Her momentum however pushed her up high in turn two and Patrick crossed back over to the bottom to go to the lead and bring home the win. Wolff did get one of the classes two heat wins with the other going to Bobby Blowers of Waseca.
In Pure Stock action Daniel Guttormson of Austin scored his first career feature win as he took advantage of a front row starting spot to jump to the point on the drop of the green. Daniel stretched out a bit of a lead while the field sorted it self out. Brady Krohnberg of Walters working out of row four picked his way up to second just before the halfway point of the race and started reeling in Daniel. He pulled up to him on the final lap but Guttormson was up to the challenge and drove on into victory lane. Brady did get a heat win out of the night. Brandon Shaner of Owatonna, who came home third in the feature picked up the other heat win. Greg Lammers of Owatonna and Stacy Krohnberg of Walters rounded out the top five in the feature.
In USRA B Mod action Kadden Kath of Owatonna drew a front row started spot and turned it into his second feature win of the season at Lansing. Jeremiah Christianson of Sioux Falls South Dakota, making his second trip to the track this year came home in second. Christiansen was reeling in Kath as the laps wound down in the feature but time ran out as the checkers fell for Kadden. A pair of Blooming Prairie drivers Jerry Young and AJ Zvorak followed the pair to the finish line. Kadden also had a heat win on the night as did his brother Kylie and Zvorak.
Dan Wheeler of Savage picked up his fourth feature win of the season at the track on a late lap pass to claim the WISSOTA Midwest Modified main event. Billy Steinberg of Kasson lead the opening half dozen laps before Brayten Cisneros of Blooming Prairie took his turn at the front. With Cisneros and Steinberg running one-two Wheeler was looking for a line to move up on the two and he found it in one sweeping move as he went from third to first in one shot as the trio came to the white flag. Brayten held on for second ahead of Billy. Wheeler also had a heat win on the night along with Michael Wytaske of Lansing and Jeremy Misgen of New Richland.
Also adding to his feature wins total was Mike Blowers of Waseca as he scored number six on the year in the WISSOTA Street Stock class. A wild opening lap was Blowers, Kyle King of Hastings, Noah Grinstead of Austin and Zach Elward of Hayfield fan out four wide coming into complete lap one. Blowers ended up taking the lead and never looked back as he left the rest of the field battling for second. Grinstead ended up winning that battle with Kory Adams of Stacyville Iowa getting into the mix late to take home third. The class ran just one heat on the night and it went to King.
Brandon Davis of Medford picked up his sixth feature win of the season at the track taking seven laps to get from row four to the front. Jason Cummins, who started just behind him in row five took a little longer to work traffic. Jason picked his way up to third ten laps into the race and than took another ten laps to get to second as he and Joe Horgdal of Kasson put on a show. With Joe sticking to the bottom of the track and Jason on the top the two raced side by side lap after lap before Cummins got the better of the battle. Jacob Dahle of Morristown took third away from Horgdal on the last lap. Dahle and Cummins were the classes heat winners.
Racing action continues next Friday night with the regular six classes of cars and than it two weeks the rescheduled 19th Annual Mike Guttormson Memorial with the USMTS Traveling Modifieds highlighting the nights featured event. Racing action gets underway each Friday night at 7:00.
