The 60th Anniversary Season of racing action at Chateau Raceway is heading into its final lap next Friday night and this past weekend the first three of the six track championships were decided. Next week the USMTS Open Modified Touring Series will be in town for one of there stops on there Chase for The Championship Races. Just three of the tracks regular classes will be running as support classes for the evening with track points still on the line for those. The other three had there seasons end Friday night. Among them was the USRA A Modified Class. Several of those drivers will be on hand again next week but they will be driving with the USMTS drivers, so that left them wrapping up there season Friday Night. Jason Cummins of New Richland ended up claiming the Track Championship for 2016 for the class. It is Jason’s third Track Championship in the class after also taking top honors in 2010 and 2011. Jason ended up runnerup in the feature event on Friday night behind Steve Wetzstein of West Concord. Steve came out of row two and moved past early leader Greg Pfeifer JR of Austin on lap three and never looked back as the field ran a caution free main event. Jason worked from row four up to second ahead of fellow row four starter Keith Tourville of Webster Wisconsin who finished just ahead of Greg who did pick up one of the heat wins on the night. The other went to Cummins
Bobby Blowers of Waseca claimed his second Track Championship in the Hornets Class, also winning the top spot in 2014. Bobby capped his championship with his fifth feature win of the season. Mike Chadderdon of Faribault, making his first appearance of the year at the track had a nice run coming home second Marissa Wolff of Janesville and Nick Sillman of Minnesota Lake took home the classes heat wins.
The third Track Championship to be decided was in the Pure Stock Class where Jason Newkirk of Austin ended up with his third Championship. Jason, who also won titles in the class in 2010 and 2014 ended up finishing second in the feature to last years Champion Matt Brooks of Austin. Matt started inside row two and went to the front on the first lap and lead flag to flag for his second feature win of the year. Jason worked his way through the field from row four to end up in the runnerup spot, he did however pick up a heat win on the night as did Brandon Shaner of Owatonna.
Of the other three classes yet to decide there Champions the most drama may be yet to be played out in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified Division. Michael Wytaske of Lansing and Ryan Goergen of Stacyville entered the night tied for the lead just four points ahead of Garitt Wytaske of Lansing, Ryan will have the lead over the other two going to the final race next week after taking home a heat win on the night and running third in the feature just behind Garitt and three positions ahead of Michael. Meanwhile claiming his first feature win of the year was Jeremy Misgen of New Richland. Jeremy started on the pole and lead flag to flag for the win.
The USRA B Mod Class Champiionship appears to be Owatonna’s Kylie Kath’s for the taking next week. His point lead of better than 50 points is not insurmountable but looks pretty good after he finished second on the night to Derek Clement of Spring Valley and two positions ahead of his closest rival for the title, his brother Kadden. For Clement it was his first feature win of the year. Derek started in row two and ran third after the first lap to Kylie and Kadden but he kept the heat on and about lap eight he swept to the lead and would race off to the win. Clement was running the high line for much of the race while Kylie was working the bottom and pulled along side several times to challenge back for the lead. However on a late restart Derek changed his line and stayed low on the track and forcing Kylie to work the top side which worked to his advantage as he maintained the lead for the win. Clement got the sweep on the night as he also claimed a heat win. The other heat went to Blake Arndt of Brownsdale.
In the WISSOTA Street Stock Class Noah Grinstead of Austin claimed his second feature win of the season holding off Mike Blowers of Waseca on a couple of late restarts for the win. Blowers is poised to win the track championship next week as he has a better than 30 point lead and with the WISSOTA Points System may need to just start the feature next week to claim the title. Noah also claimed a sweep for the night after also winning his heat race. Mike took home the win in the other heat.
