Chateau Speedway Banquet 2024 at Lansing Corners!*

Chateau Raceway 6/2/17

June 2, 2017  |  by Matthew Grage

It was Fan Appreciation Night Friday Night at Chateau Raceway in Lansing with Free Admission for all fans in the grandstand. Mother Nature cooperated as she provided perfect weather for the free night of racing sponsored by Thrivent Financial of Austin. Last year Martha Vrieze and Chad Thomas sponsored NASCAR driver Michael McDowell’s visit to the track this year they stepped up again with another great promotional night.

Five of the six feature winners on the night were repeat feature winners from earlier in the season, the lone new winner came in the Chateau Hornets. Mike Wachs JR of New Prague made his first trip to the track night to remember as he came from the back of the nine car field to capture there main event. A trio of quick cautions slowed the start of the race but when they finally got a lap in they ran clean to the end. Bob Knutson of Rochester grabbed the early lead and paced the field the first hand full of laps before Wachs made his way up through the field. After a lap of side by side racing Wachs finished off the pass for the lead and cruised to the win. The class does not run any heats when there car count is under ten.

Last week the USRA A Mods ran a clean caution free feature, this week they had one small hiccup in the middle of the race, but the result was the same. Jason Cummins of New Richland made a quick move out of row two to the front on the drop of the green and lead every lap of the 25 lap main event. Brad Waits of Rochester, making is first visit to the track this season worked out of row four up to second by the time the checkers fell. Dustin Sorensen of Rochester and Josh Angst of Winona took home the classes heat wins.

Jesse Stahl of Austin continued his early season run in the Chateau Pure Stock Class as he captured his third feature win in four weeks. Stahl was running second to Chris Hotovec of Dodge Center when Chris got loose in two and Jesse was able to move by for the lead. When Hotovec got sideways he caused a couple cars to spin out bringing out a caution and sending him to the rear of the field for the restart. The rest of the race was not so much about the leader as it was about watching Chris come back through the field. He slowly picked his way back toward the front eventually moving all the way back up to second. The two were the nights heat winners as well.

Along with Stahl two other drivers scored sweeps on the night capturing both heat and feature wins. USRA B Mod driver Kadden Kath of Claremont used a pair of front row starting spots to his advantage as he took home the two wins for that class. Kylie Kath of Owatonna came home in second in the feature.

Mike Blowers of Waseca turned the trick in the WISSOTA Street Stock Class both times coming from deeper in the field. Blowers worked form row three in his heat to the front while in the feature he picked his way from row four to the lead. Last weeks feature winner Kory Adams of Stacyville IA, also working from a row four starting spot, came home in second ahead of Jason Newkirk of Austin. Newkirk passed a lot of cars as well. After a tough run in his heat he started back in row six in the feature and came all the way up to third. The classes other heat winner was Ken Adams of Stacyville Iowa.

WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were lead to the checkers by Dan Wheeler of Savage for the second time this season. Again it was row four that put on the show for the field as both he and Robbie Franklin of Shakopee worked through the field from those starting spots to get to the top two positions. Wheeler moved around Scott Simmons of Lakeville on lap five for the lead with Franklins move to second coming a few laps later. Michael Wytaske of Lansing, making his first trip out to the track this season, came from a deep starting position in row six to come home in third. Franklin and Brayten Cisneros of Blooming Prairie took the classes heat wins.

The 2017 season continues next Friday night at 7:00 with the Outlaw Mini Mods joining the show for there third appearance of the seasons.
