Drivers battle the wall as well as other drivers on a wild night at Chateau Speedway

With a week under there belts the new Chateau Speedway was all revved up for week two of racing action of the shortened 2018 Season. After Mother Nature made things difficult for the opening weekend with Rain into Friday Morning and again during the middle of the opening nights show she threw a little more weather at her this week. Rain on Wednesday night slowed track preparation a bit as the crews continued working to get the Track back into shape after it sat idle for 10 and a half months. The track developed a little “Character” on opening night and much of the week was spent on it trying to tame it. The bottom half of the Track stayed pretty soft a week ago and thru a week of blading and rolling it back the track was looking better with just a few wrinkles in it that the crew will continue to work on. A solid field filled the pits for the second week in a row and a nice crowd was on hand again for a second go round. Once again seven classes were on hand for the nights program sponsored by Joe Vogt Custom Pumping of Rose Creek and Fast Signs of Rochester, as the KEVKO Outlaw Mini Mods were on hand for what would be there regular week of there BI-Weekly Schedule.
No rain delays this week to delay the action but a couple of wild roll overs used up some time on the night. The first driver to go over was in the Y Waste Hornet Feature when Dan Knish of Kilkenny caught the wall on the back straightaway out of turn two while battling for the lead with Caylie Blowers of Waseca. He went over and ended up on his top. It took awhile for him to crawl out of his car and when he did he had to have help as he limped over to the ambulance. He ended up being taken into the hospital with an apparent foot injury. Andrew Knutson of Marion eventually made his way to victory lane after he wrestled the lead from Mike Weiss of Bloomington just over halfway through the event. Weiss lead for a couple laps after moving by Blowers on lap 5. Blowers meanwhile brought out another caution as she caught the wall on the front straightaway trying to battle back for the lead. She kept it on all four wheels but the impact sent steam spewing out from under the hood ending her night. Last weeks feature winner Brian Adams of Shakopee worked from the back of the field to take home second ahead of Weiss, Cody Hyatt of Waseca and Nick Sillman of Minnesota Lake. The class did not get any heats with the low car count.
The other rollover on the night was a wild one in the WISSOTA Street Stock Main Event. Zach Elward of Hayfield who came in runnerup in a thrilling feature on opening night last week was making a big charge through the field again this week. After starting back in row 4 he was picking his way to the front when on lap seven he made a big move from fourth to second. He was still driving hard into turn three as the caution was coming out behind him for a spinning car. The front of the field was still at speed when he caught the wall in turn 3 and road it to the middle of turn four when the throttle apparently hung for a moment from the first impact and the car made a harder turn into the wall and drove right up and over it flipping end for end as it went over the wall. Zach crawled out after the incident and road back to the pits in the ambulance. After the races he said he was a little sore and gave a long list of the damage to his car and all he would have to do to get it back ready to race. Meanwhile Bernie Adams of Stacyville Iowa who started outside of row two, went to the lead on lap 4 passing Noah Grinstead of Austin for the top spot. He rode into Victory Lane for the first time this season. Jason Newkirk, who won the season opening feature last week, gave him all he could handle with plenty of side by side action all the way to the end. In fact on lap twelve, while trying to hold Newkirk back, Bernie caught the wall himself out of turn two but he was able to hang onto it and maintain the lead as he came away with the win. Bobby Blowers of Waseca came home in third followed by Stacy Krohnberg of Walters and Greg Lammers of Owatonna. Heat wins were claimed by Blake Adams of McIntire Iowa and Kory Adams of Stacyville Iowa. Neither of the heat winners were around for the end of the feature after they also got friendly with the wall during the main event.
Power 96 Pure Stocks were paced for the second week in a row by Jesse Stahl of Austin. Jesse drew outside front row for the feature, and after winning the classes only heat, claimed his second straight feature win to start the season. Troy Maas of Faribault who started on the pole hung with him the entire twelve laps but never found the line to put him to the front. Tyler Peterson of Geneva, making his first appearance of the season, came home in third. Christ Hotovec of Dodge Center and Brady Krohnberg of Walters made up the rest of the top five.
WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds saw a first time Feature Winner. Brayten Cisneros of Blooming Prairie started on the front row and lead flag to flag for the win but had his hands full every lap of the way. Casey Trom of Zumbrota was inside and outside of him lap after lap looking for a way to get to the front but Cisneros was up to the task. Michael Wytaske of Hartland was in the mix as well as he and Trom swapped the second spot several times before Casey took the spot at the checkers. A couple of drivers from Scandia battled it out for fourth with last weeks feature winner Mitch Weiss getting the best of Jason VandeKamp. Cisneros win capped a sweep for him as he also claimed one of the two heats on the night with the other going to VandeKamp.
The USRA B Mods treated fans to another exciting feature with defending Track Champion Kadden Kath of Owatonna claiming his first feature win of the year at Lansing. Matt Brooks of Austin held the early lead in the race before Greg Pfeifer JR of Austin overhauled him for the lead on lap 3. Brooks came back to the front a lap later before Pfeifer went back past him again. A mid-race restart did in Pfeifer however as Kath was able to close back up on him and found the line to get to the point. Last weeks feature winner AJ Zvorak of Blooming Prairie worked from a row four starting spot up to second ahead of Pfeifer and Brooks. Scott Demmer of Ellendale, who started back in row five passed a lot of cars to finish in the top five. Kath also had a heat win to give him a sweep on the night while Demmer also enjoyed a heat win on the night.
Kadden Kath won the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feaure.
After leading thru much of the middle of his Midwest Modified Feature, Greg Pfeifer JR, pulling double duty on the night, also driving a USRA A Mod, found himself starting in row two for his second feature run of the night. Last weeks feature winner Charlie Steinberg of Kasson grabbed the lead on the drop of the green only to have a quick caution come out when his brother Billy, also of Kasson, got his car up on two wheels thru turns three and four. Billy almost tipped it over but was able to bring it back down on all four wheels but the action jumbled the pack and spun several cars out bringing out a caution. On the second attempt to start the race Charlie again got to the point with Pfeifer pulling in line second. On lap four Greg made his move going to the front. As the laps wound down Darwin Karau of Kasson made his way up to second and dogged Pfeifer to the end but had to settle for the runner up spot. Blake Arndt of Brownsdale had a great run from a row five starting spot up to third as he actually closed on the top two over the final laps but ran out of time and laps. Doug Hillson of Blooming Prairie who picked up a heat win on the night came home in fourth ahead of Charlie Steinberg. Pfeifer also had a heat win making it four drivers who scored clean sweeps on the night.
The KEVKO Mini Mods were on hand as they run every other week at the track. Taton Hansen of Spicer made the long haul down for the night and was rewarded with win in their Feature. Scott Johnson of Owatonna had the early lead but Hansen used a restart on lap three to jump to the front and lead the rest of the way. Nathan Kilwine of Glenville outdueled Ryan Hensel of Forest Wisconsin for the runnerup spot. The trio of drivers were side by side and back and forth thru out a very exciting race. Johnson ended up fourth ahead of Cole Bennerote of Kasson. Johnson and Kilwine were the classes heat winners.
Next Friday Night it will be back to six classes when the track swings its gates open for Week 3 of action. Gates will open at 5:00 and Racing Action at 7:15.
