Four of six classes are three for three with different feature winners to open season for Chateau Speedway

Darwin Karau won the USRA Modified feature.

Darwin Karau won the USRA Modified feature.

Mother Nature provided a perfect night for racing action on Friday Night and the drivers and fans turned out for Week 3 of action at the refreshed Chateau Speedway in Lansing. It was Power 96 night at the track as the Classic Rock Station sponsored the nights action, and the action was Classic as well with plenty of hotly contested races. Although there seemed to be a few gremlins out and about as mysteriously guys running in the top five in several of the features just suddenly fell out. Four of the six classes continue to have different feature winners every week. The only repeat feature winners came in the Y Waste Hornets and Power 96 Pure Stocks.

In the USRA A Mod Feature Darwyn Karau of Kasson avoided the sudden mechanical errors that plagued a few drivers to lead flag to flag for his first feature win of the season, making it three different feature winners so far this year in three weeks. Behind him however it was a different story. Brandon Davis of Hayfield, who picked up a heat win early in the night, had worked his way up from a row 6 starting spot to second place only to have things go bad. Off a restart with six laps to go he got a run on Karau and had slid by for the lead only to have another caution stick him back to second for another restart. As everyone watched to see if he would get another jump on the next restart his car mysteriously slowed coming to the green and stopped on the front straight away. He limped his car to the pits with his night ending in disappointment. Brett Bumgardner of Hawkeye Iowa was running solidly in the top five when he suddenly slowed and pulled into the infield ending his race as well. When the checkers flew on the caution filled race it was Blake Arndt of Brownsdale who chased Karau home finishing second ahead of Greg Pfeifer Jr of Austin. Pfeifer, who took home a heat win on the night as well, out dueled Jacob Dahle of Morristown and Doug Hillson of Blooming Prairie for the third spot. Jake Stark of Austin had the classes other heat win.

In an even wilder sequence in the USRA B Mod Feature three of the top five cars all dropped out with two laps of each other. Kadden Kath of Owatonna, who lead the race from the drop of the green after starting on the pole slowed with a flat tire with just three laps to go in the race. That came just a lap after Greg Pfeifer Jr of Austin, pulling double duty on the night with his A Mod, and Derek Clement of Spring Valley both dropped out while having good runs in the top five. Another caution allowed Kath to get his tire changed and get back on the track for the final laps to salvage a top ten finish. The beneficiary of all this was Nick Wagner of Osage Iowa. Nick had a gun running going, sitting second, and was actually putting the heat on Kath for several laps when he inherited the lead. He went on to be the third different feature winner for the class in the three weeks the track has been reopened. A.J. Zvorak of Blooming Prairie also took advantage of the situation and came home in second ahead of A.J. Hoff of Mantorville. Hunter Kennedy of St Ansgar Iowa and Dustin Steinbrink of Austin rounded out the top five. Heat winners on the night were Kath, Pfeifer, and Hoff.

Kory Adams of Stacyville Iowa lead a caution free WISSOTA Street Stock Feature from flag to flag for his first Feature win of the year at Lansing and continuing the string of different feature winners every week in the class. Jason Newkirk, who had problems in his heat and had to start at the back of the field came up to second but by the time he got there had no time to real in Adams who was long gone. Last weeks Feature winner Bernie Adams of Stacyville Iowa came home ahead of Zach Elward of Hayfield and Greg Lammers of Owatonna. The classes lone heat was taken by Elward.

WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds saw Jason VanderKamp of Scandia pick up his first feature win of the year at Chateau Speedway as he came out of row two and went by early leader Ryan Goergen of Stacyville Iowa on lap four and sail off to the win. The race, which was slowed by just one caution saw Ryan Wetzstein of West Concord put on a good show as he worked his way through traffic for a third place finish behind Goergen. Jesse Hernandez of Blooming Prairie and Mitch Weiss of Scandia made up the rest of the top five. Wetzstein and Michael Wytaske of Hartland picked up the classes two heat wins.

In Power 96 Pure Stock action it continues to be the Jesse Stahl show. Stahl has taken all three feature wins in the class to open the season as he scored a sweep for the second week in a row as he also scored a win in his heat. Troy Maas of Faribault came home second ahead of Brady Krohnberg of Walters. Beau Stevens of Albert Lea had the early lead in the race before Krohnberg went by him on lap four. Four laps later however it was Stahl who went to the point and paced the field the rest of the way. Nick Carvelli of Maplewood and Zach Ehmke of Dexter came home fourth and fifth. Chris Hotovec took the classes other heat win.

Brian Adams of Shakopee scored his second feature win of the year in the Y Waste Hornet class as they ran a caution free feature. Adams drew a front row starting spot for the feature and lead flag to flag for the win. Ashley Bell of Farmington had a nice run and stuck with him down the stretch but settled for second ahead of Shawn Grabinger of Farmington, Aaron Reimers of Prior Lake and Andy Knutson of Rochester.

Action resumes next Friday Night at 7:15 with racing action in 7 classes as the KEVKO Outlaw Mini Mods will be joining the regular six classes of USRA A and B Mods, WISSOTA Street Stocks and Midwest Modifieds as well as the Y Waste Hornets and Power 96 Pure Stocks. The Mini Mods are an every other week class at the track, just 5 miles North of Austin.
