Mother Nature has continued her run of great Friday Night weather giving the re-opened Chateau Speedway a fourth straight perfect night for high speed action. The drivers rolled off a near perfect set of heats running the 14 races in just over an hour. The feature half of the show for many of the classes was a different story as caution after caution slowed the second half of the program. There were a couple exceptions however as the Power 96 Pure Stocks and the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds ran a pair of non stop caution free races.
Jesse Stahl of Austin continued to sweep through the 2018 season as he put together a perfect night for the third week in a row as he took the classes heat and feature again. In fact in the 8 races he’s competed in he has all four of the classes feature wins this year and has took 3 of the 4 heat races he’s run in. A third place finish in the first heat race of the season is the only race he has not crossed in front of the checkers first. Friday night it looked like Brady Krohnberg of Walters had the answer for him as he got out to a quick lead and just past the halfway point of the race with Stahl on his back bumper he was holding his own. However on lap eight of the twelve lap event he drifted a bit high in turn four opening the door for Jesse to slide on by for the lead. Chris Hotovec of Dodge Center drove by for second with Troy Maas of Faribault nosing our Krohnberg for third. Danielle Maas of Owatonna came home in fifth.
In WISSOTA Midwest Modified action Drew Williams of Rochester grabbed the early lead off the front row in the main event with Brayten Cisneros of Blooming Prairie moving up to second out of row two. Michael Wytaske of Hartland, also starting in row two moved up to third on lap four and the three of them put on quite a show with the trio taking turns running side by side for position. On lap eight Wytaske took over second and set his sights on Williams. The pair ran several side by side laps until Michael went to the point on lap fourteen and from there lead the field home to the checkers. Unfortunately however getting to the checkers first did not get him to Victory Lane as he was DQ’d for an inoperable timing transponder. That put Cisneros in Victory Lane for the second time this season and Mitch Weiss of Scandia being credited with a second place finish ahead of Williams. Ryan Goergen of Stacyville Iowa out ran Neil Eckhart of Rochester for fourth. The classes heat wins on the night went to Goergen and Weiss.
The USRA B-Mods were one of the classes plagued by cautions and in the end it may have cost Brandon Hare of Elma Iowa the win. Hare lead lap after lap and he AJ Zvorak of Blooming Prairie had stretched out a pretty good only to have the yellow flags keep bunching the group back up. The restarts worked to the advantage of Kadden Kath of Owatonna who made good use of the restarts to move his way up into a three way battle for the lead which he eventually won. Kaths feature win was his second of the year. Hare came home in second ahead of Zvorak followed by Derek Clement of Spring Valley and Taylor Ausrud of Hayfield. Hare and Clement along with Dustin Kruse of Brandon South Dakota claimed the classes heat wins.
The USRA Modified Feature was slowed by five cautions but Josh Angst of Winona survived all the restarts as he lead flag to flag for the win in his first appearance at the track this season. A.J. Roschen of Sommerset Wisconsin who started on the front row with Josh stayed within striking distance of him all race long but he was forced to settle for runnerup status. Defending Track Champion Jason Cummins of New Richland came home in third ahead of Joe Horgdahl of Kasson and Doug Hillson of Blooming Prairie. Heat winners for the A Mods were Cummins and Angst.
Just missing a caution free Feature run on the night were the WISSOTA Street Stocks which had just one caution slow there race and that one caution was the leader who went around on his own. Noah Grinstead of Austin grabbed the lead on the drop of the green and was sailing away when on lap twelve the car went around on him in the middle of turn three. Braden Brauer of Rochester inherited the lead with Kory Adams of Stacyville Iowa right behind him on the restart. Kory went right to work and two laps later took over the lead. Braden hung tough and kept running up underneath him but couldn’t power by to retake the lead and ended up in second followed by Jason Newkirk of Austin. Grinstead made a nice recovery coming back for fourth ahead of Zach Elward of Hayfield. Adams also had a heat win on the night as did Elward.
Joining Angst as a first time visitor at the track this year to take home a feature win on the night was Nate Coopman of Mankato in the Y Waste Hornet Class. Coopman jumped out of row three at the drop of the green flag and jumped up to third on the first lap behind Nick Silman of Minnesota Lake and Ashley Bell of Farmington. With Silman on point Bell and Coopman were battling for second when some contact sent Nate around. On the restart Bell was put to the rear and Coopman got his spot back and off the restart wasted no time taking over the lead. Shawn Grabinger of Farmington came home in second followed by Bell who picked her way back up through the field for a third place finish. Brian Adams of Shakopee, who has two feature wins this year, came home in fourth followed by Andy Knutson of Marion.
The final feature of the night was the KEVKO Outlaw Mini Mods who tore up a few cars during the course of there 12 lap main event. Four cautions thinned the field from eleven down to seven at the finish with Logan Brown of Clear Lake Iowa claiming his first feature win of the season. Nathan Kilwine of Glenville, who took one of the classes heat came home runnerup after several laps of side by side racing for the lead. Scott Johnson of Owatonna, Matt Prehn of Mason City Iowa and Anthony Kramer of Owatonna made up the rest of the top five. Brown ended up with a sweep on the night as he also claimed a heat win.
Fans and Drivers will be looking for another picture perfect night next Friday Night as racing action continues with the first green flag of the night scheduled for 7:15. Next weeks program will feature six classes of action with USRA A and B Mods, WISSOTA Street Stock and Midwest Modifieds, Y Waste Hornets, and Power 96 Pure Stocks.
