Rain Dampens Spirits of Drivers and Fans

August 24, 2018  |  by Matthew Grage

Mother Nature tested everyone’s patience again on Friday with a rainy/drizzly morning but came through with Sunshine by midafternoon and looked like it was setting up to be a great night of racing. However she rolled out round two just before five-o-clock with showers popping up to the west. Still looked like there was a chance to race as the rain was moving north on radar. A few sprinkles fell on the drivers as they pulled in and all sat and watched there radar screens waiting to see what would happen. Just before 6:30 the rain moved east and dumped on the track with standing water on the bottom apron of the track, large puddles in the pits, parking lot and around the concession stand. Looking at a possible two hour delay to try to get the track raceable and the sloppy conditions for fans the decision was made to pull the plug.

The Track will host there Season Championship races next Friday night at 7:15 with the Track Champions to be decided in USRA A and B Mod, WISSOTA Street Stock and Midwest Mod, as well as Y Waste Hornets and Power 96 Pure Stocks. Trophy’s will be awarded next week to each of the feature winner’s as well. The Track also announced they will be hosting 3 specials during the month of September, something the track has not done in several years. Starting Friday Night September 7th they will host an Open Event for those drivers wanting to get in more action before the summer gets away. They also have a two night show on the schedule for the end of September, Friday Night the 28th and Saturday Night the 29th. Race time on the two Friday shows will be 7:15 with the Saturday night show schedule to get started at 6:00. For those drivers running in the Sanctioned WISSOTA and USRA classes this is an opportunity for them to roll into town to try and score more National Points in there respective classes. All 6 of the tracks regular classes are scheduled to be competing on all three nights with a special class of cars running on the 7th. Chateau Speedway is thriled to be hosting the WISSOTA Super Stocks on that night. The class has run several seasons over the years at Chateau, most recently in 2009, so it will be exciting to see the class of cars get back on the Lansing dirt again. A fourth event is on the September schedule, a cooperative endeavor between the track and Southern Minnesota Promotions. SMP runs several endures over the course of the summer and they will run there season finale at Lansing on Saturday Afternoon September 8th at Noon. Plans are being discussed for a Championship Banquet to be held during the offseason to recognize the top drivers in each class and award more trophys. More information on that will be released when plans are finalized.
