Ryan Wetzstein won the USRA Modified main event.

The ownership change at Chateau Speedway has been very visible around the Tack and Facilities over the course of the season with all the changes and upgrades. Those changes have continued to show themselves during the Month of September with the return of Autumn Racing Specials after Labor Day Weekend. The Track hosted an Open Invitational earlier in the month which included an appearance by the WISSOTA Super Stocks which had not raced at the track since 2009. Now this weekend the is hosting a two day event billed as “The First Annual Chateau Speedway Autumn Extravaganza.” Along with the two separate nights of full racing with heats and features promoters put up a third purse for the top 10 drivers in each class from the two nights. Point totals from the two nights will be added together to determine a third top ten payout. On top of that music was provided after the races with a DJ after the first show on Friday Night. Saturdays scheduled included “The First Annual Corn Hole Tournament”. A bean bag tournament with a $300 top prize. Other Saturday activities for the kids to include a bouncy house and other games as well capped off by bike giveaways at Saturday Nights finale. The opening night car count was a solid 130 cars.

With all the exciting action through out the night it ended in a scary moment in the Y Waste Removal Hornet Feature. The race was called after just three laps when Matt Wieman of Owatonna rolled violently into the turn four wall. He bounced off a few cars as a hornets nest of cars battled early in the race and suddenly was flipping. He crawled from his car and said he was OK but rode back to his trailer in the ambulance being checked out. Todd Tachney of Mankato who had picked up the lead on lap two was credited with the win, his first of the year, ahead of Bailey Wolfe of Waseca and Seth School of Holman Wisconsin. TJ Pearson of Prior Lake took fourth followed by Levi Selly of St Peter. The Classes heat winners on the night were Brian Adams of Shakopee, Aaron Reimers of Prior Lake and Nick Sillman of Minnesota Lake.

The Power 96 Pure Stocks meanwhile ran a caution free feature with Brady Krohnberg of Walters picking up his second feature win of the year at Lansing, Beau Stevens of Albert Lea lead the opening lap before Troy Maas of Faribault took the lead. His lead only last 3 laps at Brady went to the point on lap five and stayed there the rest of the way. Maas came home in second followed by Chris Hotovec of Dodge Center, Michael Wick of Faribault and Michael Gift of Elysian. Jesse Stahl of Austin and Ron Chruchill of Faribault took wins in the classes two heat events.

KEVKO Outlaw Mini Mods had a season high car count of 18 cars and with just two cautions slowing there main event. Kelly Steele of International Falls, after picking up one of the classes three heat wins had the early lead in the feature until some close quarter racing caused damage to the left rear of his car ending his night early. Taton Hansen of Spicer inherited the lead and held it the rest of the way for his second Chateau Speedway Feature win of 2018. Jerry Larson of Bemidji was scored second after a late caution ahead of Dane Olson of International Falls, Michael Bryant of Mason City Iowa and Bobby Ruhloe of Clear Lake Iowa. Blake Ferris of International Falls and Nathan Kilwine of Glenville took the classes other two heat wins.

In the French’s Repair USRA A Mod Feature it was Ryan Wetzstein of West Concord scoring his first career A Mod Feature win. Ryan, who normally drives just his WISSOTA Midwest Modified, was pulling double duty on the night also driving his dads A Mod. Ryan started on the front row for the 25 lap main event and lead flag to flag with Adam Hensel of Baldwin Wisconsin darting inside him at every opportunity putting the pressure on. Ryan drove a smooth line in bringing home the win despite running over half the race with a flat left front tire. Josh Angst of Winona came from back in row six to get in the mix for the win but settled for third. Dustin Brown of Thornton Iowa and Darwyn Karau of Kasson rounded out the top five. Hensel, Keith Tourville of Janesville and Jason Cummins of New Richland grabbed heat wins. While Hensel had a good run in the feature the other two ran into problems. Cummins fell out on lap four with a flat tire and Tourville went out about midrace when some broke when he spun while running second.

In USRA B Mod action a front row start paid off for Nate Whitehurst of Mason City Iowa as he lead flag to flag for his first feature win in his first visit to the track this year. He endured four restarts as cautions plagued the middle portion of the race as he held off Tyler Tesch of Lennox South Dakota. A pair of Austin Drivers Noah Grinstead and Matt Brooks came home in third and fourth followed by Kadden Kath of Owatonna. The field also ran a Consy event with Zach Elward of Hayfield picking up his first win in the class at Chateau after racing much of the season in his WISSOTA Street Stock. Heat winners on the night were Dustin Steinbrink of Austin, Kath, Alex Williamson of Rushford, and Hunter Kennedy of St Ansgar Iowa.

WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds provided one of the most exciting finishes of the night with Dan Wheeler of Savage coming on late to take home his first Lansing Feature win of the season. Don Schaefer of Eyota looked to be in control of the race and lead nineteen of the twenty laps. That last one went to Wheeler. Dan started in row 3 but was scuffled back early in the race. He slowly picked his way forward getting up to third with five laps to go. As the field came to the white flag he swung around Michael Wytaske of Hartland for second and than out of turn two on the final lap got along side Schaefer and slid to the front to score the win. Spencer Stock of Eyota took fourth ahead of Ryan Wetzstein. The class also ran a Consy with that victory going to Steve Dehler of Pine City. Heat winners for the division were Wytaske, Wheler, Wetzstein and Schaefer.

One late caution with two laps to go is the only thing that prevent the WISSOTA Street Stocks from running a clean main event. Jason Newkirk of Austin barely paid attention to it as he lead flag to flag for his first feature win since opening night. Stacy Krohnberg, of Walters came home in second ahead of a hard charging Kory Adams of Stacyville Iowa who came from row five to take home third. Travis Loew of Barron Wisconsin held off Zach Elward of Hayfield for fourth. Elward and Danny Richards of Mondovi Wisconsin garnered heat wins.

Race time for the Saturday Night show is set for 6:00 with drivers laying it on the line for the nights purse as well as gathering more points to go towards there two night total to hopefully set themselves up for another nice bonus check.
