Labor Day Dash See's Two More Track Records Fall At Chateau Speedway

September 2, 2019

Chateau Speedway (Lansing, MN)  9/1/19                                                                                                                                                             Matthew Grage

September Specials bring some of the most exciting races every year.  Drivers see the end of the Season just ahead and come out for a few last shows and the chance to get to Victory Lane one more time before the car goes up on stands for the winter.  Fans put on there sweaters and hats to see a few more thrilling shows before the Season fades away.  Chateau Speedway has a long tradition of racing into September and that tradition continues this season with three nights of September Action on the Schedule.  The first of those three nights was the “Labor Day Dash” on Sunday Night sponsored by Express Power Washers of Blooming Prairie and Misgen Auto of Ellendale.

Two drivers used the night to dash their way into the Chateau Speedway Record Books with new records for fastest laps recorded in their respective  classes.  The first to rewrite the record book was French’s Repair USRA A Mod driver Jason Cummins of New Richland who ripped off a lap of 15.309/78.384 mph in his heat race win.  Jason’s time eclipsed the old mark set by Brandon Davis of Hayfield back in 2013.  Davis’s old mark of 15.587/76.986 mph was shattered by over a quarter of a second.  Than in the Power 96 WISSOTA Pure Stock class Brady Krohnberg of Walters shaved a few hundredths off the old mark.  His fast lap in the nights feature was a 18.615/64.463 mph lap beating the mark of 18.654/64.329 set by Jesse Stahl of Austin just last year.  That makes seven track records that have fallen this season.   The Y Waste WISSOTA Hornets, KEVKO Outlaw Mini Mods, WISSOTA Street Stocks, IMCA Stock Cars, and Non Wing/Traditional Sprints all have lowered their marks this year as well.   The pace was fast all night long as the field ran through their heats in under an hour and zipped through there features in less than an hour and a half sending everybody home in record time.

For the third show in a row the French’s Repair USRA A Mods flew though a caution free main event.  Joel Alberts of Mantorville started on the front row and after picking up his first career feature win two Fridays ago added a second to resume on Sunday Night.  While he was running away from the field there was plenty of action behind him.  Joe Horgdahl of Kasson drove a solid race coming from row three to finish second while Jason Cummins drove to a third place finish after starting outside of row five.  Devin Havlik of Iowa Falls Iowa and Kevin Stoa of Kasson rounded out the top five.  Dwaine Hansen of Lakefield took a heat win on the night along with Cummins.

Y Waste WISSOTA Hornets put together a caution free main event with Blake Dorweiler of Lecenter picking up his second feature win of the weekend at The Track.  Daniel Knish of Kilkenny held the early lead with Dorweiler on his back bumper.  After much side by side dueling Blake got the advantage on lap seven and kept Daniel behind him the rest of the way to the checkers.  Aaron Reimers of Prior Lake made a late pass on Caylie Blowers of Waseca for third with Matt Wieman of Owatonna coming home in fifth.  Dorweiller also had a heat win on the night giving him a sweep for the night.  Blowers took the classes other heat win.

Also running a caution free main event were the Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stocks.  Stacy Krohnberg of Walters took the early lead off the pole with Zach Elward of Hayfield right on his bumper.  Krohnberg did a good job of holding this years Track Champion off until just about halfway through the feature when Zach found a line on the bottom out of turn two and went to the lead.  From there he stretched it out and visited Victory Lane for his track leading eleventh feature win of the season.  Danny Richards of Mondovi Wisconsin, who started outside row four, drove a nice race as he worked his way up to second, but with no cautions had no time to reel in Elward to try to challenge for the win.  Krohnberg came home in third ahead of Mike Blowers of Waseca and Jason Newkirk of Austin.  Grabbing heat wins were Richards and Braden Brauer of Eyota.

A single late caution is all that slowed the WISSOTA Midwest Modified drivers.  Ryan Wetzstein grabbed the early lead and had built up a pretty good advantage until the caution flew with six laps to go.  Don Schaefer of Eyota who started back in row four had worked his way up to second and appeared to be taking a little bit off of Wetzstein’s lead when the caution came up so it looked like it could be a wild finish.  Ryan would have no part of it however as he got on the gas and opened up another nice lead over the final laps to claim his third feature win of the season at Lansing.  Schaefer finished second with Calvin Iverson of Eleva Wisconsin out dueling Kylie Kath of Claremont for third.  The pair finished just ahead of Cory Asmussen of Waseca.  Ryan Goergen of Stacyville Iowa claimed the classes lone heat win.

Action Builders USRA B Mods saw the caution flag come out just two times in the races first nine laps and than kept it green the rest of the way.  A front row starting spot was friendly to Kadden Kath of Owatonna as he scored his sixth feature win of the year at Chateau.  Jayden Larson of Mankato and AJ Hoff of Mantorville put on a show coming out of the middle of the field to battle for second down the stretch.  Larson would end up with the spot.  Michael Wytaske of Hartland held off Jamie Anderson of Mason City Iowa for fourth.  Heat wins went to Hoff and Scott Demmer of Ellendale.

It was a surprising feature for the Power 96 WISSOTA Pure Stocks in that there the class that has been running caution free main events more than any other class and on Sunday night they had the most of any feature with three of them.  Jack Paulson of Faribault who picked up his first feature win on Friday Night added another to his weekend as he held off record setter Brady Krohnberg for the win.  Brandon Shaner of Owatonna, who brought out one of the early cautions, rebounded for a third place finish ahead of Michael Wick of Faribault and Brian Adams of Montgomery.  Paulson also had a heat win on the night for a sweep with Shaner getting the other heat win.

The Season Finale for Chateau Speedway comes up next with the “2nd Annual Chateau Speedway Autumn Extravaganza” the final weekend of the month.  Friday Night September 27th and Saturday Night September 28th are the dates for this years Extravaganza.  Two full nights of racing action with drives racing for a chance at three payouts.   Along with the payouts each night the track will be awarding points for the two nights with the top ten in each class scoring a bonus third payout.   The Tracks usual 7 classes will be running both nights with the KEVKO Outlaw Mini Mods joining the six classes which ran this past Sunday Night.   Grandstand pricing will be $15 per night, however fans can purchase a two night pass on Friday Night for $20 and save.  Junior pricing remains $5 each night and kids under 5 remain free.  Along with the racing there will be plenty of activities going on.  Hayrides Friday, Corn Hole Tournament on Saturday at Noon, Bouncy House on Saturday for the Kids until 7:00pm, there will a candy drop and money scramble for the kids as well on Saturday.  WISSOTA Classes will be running for National Points, USRA will not be.  WISSOTA Modifieds are encouraged to come out and join the program for the weekend as well.   Pit Fees, Entry Fees and more information on the weekends activities is available on the tracks Web Page or on their Facebook page.  Friday nights program kicks off at the regular Friday Night time of 7:15 with the Saturday Night show at 6:00pm.  The Track will be lighting up a Bon Fire after the Friday Night show for fans and drivers who would like to sit and visit so fans are encouraged to have their lawn chairs or blankets along to sit around and join in.   Camping is available for the weekend.
