After losing the first two months of the season, Chateau Speedway in Lansing is adding to their Fall Events for the 2020 season so race fans have more racing to enjoy yet this year.
The biggest addition is the rescheduling of the “Spirit of 83 Memorial Event” which was lost in May. The race will run on Friday Night September 18th. The event, which is named in Memory of Mike Guttormson of Austin who was lost back in 1997 shortly after taking his final feature win at The Track, will feature the 22nd Guttormson Memorial “A Mod” Feature Event. Mike and those like him, who’s Spirit’s live on at the facility, which opened in 1956, has been the marquee event of every season at Lansing since Mike’s passing. This year’s event will feature all seven of The Tracks regular classes, USRA A and B Mods, as well as WISSOTA Hornet, Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Super Stocks with the first Green Flag at 7:15. All racing for Prize Money and the coveted Trophy’s which indicate a Feature win at the “2020 Spirit of 83 Memorial”, including the big Crystal Trophy for the Guttormson Memorial A Mod Winner. Fans and Business’s both have a chance to be a part of “The Memorial” through the “83 for 83” promotion. The Track came up with the idea back before the season to give 83 people or groups the chance to recognize a business or someone, possibly in memoriam, by sponsoring an extra $83 to the already generous payout for the “A Mod” feature event. If all 83 spots are taken that would be over $6400 added to the payout for the Feature named in Mike’s memory. According to track officials there are still plenty of spots left with only about a third of the spots taken. With the uncertainty of the race season there has not been much said of the promotion but now with the date set the opportunity is there for fans and businesses to get involved and recognize their business or someone. Those interested can contact The Track through their Facebook page, Messenger, or email at chateauspeedway@gmail.com .
An additional Friday Night show has been added for September 11th as well. That night will also feature all 7 of the tracks regular classes. First Green Flag at 7:15.
Already on the schedule for Labor Day Weekend, Friday Night September 4th, is the return of the USMTS Traveling Modified Series. The Series has not visited Lansing for a couple years but will return to Chateau Speedway with a big $3000 to win Modified Event. Joining the program for the night will be the USRA B Mods as well as the WISSOTA Hornets, Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, and Midwest Modifieds. First Green Flag at 7:15.
The Track also reminds everyone that the huge “3rd Annual Chateau Speedway Autumn Extravaganza” is still on the fall schedule. The two night event, Friday Night October 2nd and Saturday Night October 3rd will have plenty of activities again over the two days. Among the planned events is the big Bon Fire after the races on Friday Night as well as Hay Rides during the weekend, Kids Events, and more including the ‘3rd Annual Corn Hole Tournament for the Adults. Preregistration is required for that tournament. Friday Nights racing starts with the first green flag at 7:15, Saturdays show gets underway at 6:00.
Information and updates will be added on The Tracks “Chateau Speedway” Facebook Page as well as their Webpage at “ChateauSpeedway.com”.
