Chateau Speedway (Lansing, MN) 8/6/2021 Matthew Grage
The Mid-American Renegade Sprint Series made there third and final appearance of the 2021 Season at Chateau Speedway in Lansing Friday Night. The Show was actually scheduled for next week but was moved up a week because of a scheduling conflict with the series. The Non-Wing Traditional Sprints put on a good show again with Scott Brandt of Andover leading the way for the second time this season. After winning the pole dash he used the front row starting spot to his advantage and lead flag to flag for the feature win. Jake Kouba of Minneapolis finished second however during his heat he set a New Track Record for the Non Wing Sprints when he turned a 15.260 second lap which comes out to an average lap speed of 78.269. Cam Schafer of St Paul took the classes heat event.
A new Track Record was also set in the USRA B Mod Class as Scott Demmer of Ellendale reset the standard with a 16.286/73.676 lap during the night. Demmer backed up his time with a clean sweep as he scored the heat win and than backed it up with a runaway feature win for his first wins of the year. Ty Griffith of Webster City Iowa visited The Track for the first time this year and came up runnerup in the main event out dueling Noah Grinstead of Austin for the spot. Grinstead did pick up the other heat win however.
The Power 96 Pure Stocks were lead for the eighth time this year by Andrew Eischens of Taopi. Eischens along with Jack Paulson of Morristown and Jack Maas of Faribault were having a good three way battle for the lead with Paulson in front until a caution came out. Off the restart Eischens got the good jump and Paulson fell back to second ahead of Maas and the trio ran single file to the finish. Maas did have a heat win on the night as did Mike Wick of Faribault.
Jason Cummins dominated the French’s Repair USRA A Mod Feature for his fourth feature win of the year. Aaron Benson of Clear Lake Iowa out gunned Joel Alberts of Mantorville for second. Jason also had a heat win giving him a sweep for the second time this year. Jayden Larson of Mankato had the classes other heat win.
A pair of post race DQ’s shuffled the finishing order of the Skjeveland Sanitation and Roll Off Service WISSOTA Hornets Main Event. Brian Schott of Red Wing was DQ’d after he took what appeared to be the feature win, instead it went to Nick Sillman of Janesville. The win was Sillman’s first feature win of the year. (the fifth place finisher also was DQ’d) Sillman also took the win in his heat giving him a sweep on the night. Danie Bjonfald of Bloomington had the classes other heat win.
Two of the Features on the night had a little extra meaning to them. The Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stocks and the Action Builders WISSOTA Midwest Modified were competing for spots in this falls Race Of Champions events at the WISSOTA 100. Feature winners qualifying for that honor were Zach Elward of Hayfield in the Streets, and Adams Martinson of Blaine in the Midwest Mods.
Martinson showed a lot of patience in his win as he chipped away at Kadden Kath’s lead for much of the twenty laps before getting to the lead with three to go. Kath jumped from the front row and built a good lead early running a high line on the track. Martinson meanwhile came out of row two and made his way up to second on lap two. Running the bottom of the track Adam slowly got along side Kadden over the course of the race before taking over the top spot and the ROC qualifying win. Scott Splittstoesser of Cottage Grove and Greg Pfeifer Junior of Austin pocketed the heat wins.
In the Streets Zach Elward reeled in Jason Newkirk of Austin in the final five laps to take his sixth feature win of the year and the ROC qualifying win. Newkirk held on for second ahead of Kory Adams of Stacyville Iowa. Elward also had the sweep on the night after taking one of the heat wins while the other went to Adams.
Next week The Track will have there yearly Fireworks show. The Fireworks Show has been a part of the August appearance of the Sprint cars for the past few years but while the Sprints were moved up a week due to there schedule the Fireworks show had to stay on its night so it will light up the sky next Friday night. In two weeks it will be Kids Night at The Track. The popular night will feature car rides at 6:15 that night along with bicycle giveaways and ice cream treats for those twelve and under. August will also feature the rescheduled “Spirit of 83” which was rained out back on Memorial Day Weekend. The event will feature the 23rd running of the Mike Guttormson Memorial A Mod Feature event and its big paycheck. So while the season is winding down there’s still plenty of excitement ahead as we head towards fall at Chateau Speedway. A National Points Special will run in September before the big Fall Extravaganza the first weekend of October.
