Story will be updated with new date announced yet this fall Big Money was to be on the line as Chateau Speedway witg the 23rd running of the Mike Guttormson Memorial Open Modified Event Friday Night. The Night, now billed as “The Spirit of 83 Memorial”, remembers the Multi-Awarded former driver who was a main stay at The Track for many years, as well as all the other drivers and fans no longer with us that shared Mikes passion for Chateau Speedway. Mike racked up Multiple Track Championships at Chateau, was a former WISSOTA 100 Champion, and an inaugural member of the Chateau Speedways Hall of Fame. He passed away May 31st 1997 after a Heart-Episode inthe pits after winning his final Feature race at The Track on May 30th 1997. The Race is scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend every year since 1998 but weather has changed the schedule on numerous occasions including this year. The event did not run in 2018 when the facility went through a late ownership change thus it will only be the 23rd running of the Event even though it will be the 24th Anniversary of us losing him.
This year’s race will feature a $2500 to win first prize. Second place will see a solid $2000 check at the end of the night highlighting a nice payout. The USRA A Mods are not the only class to see the purse bump for the night. The USRA B Mods and WISSOTA Midwest Mods will be racing for $500 to win in each of there classes, WISSOTA Street Stocks will have a $350 check awaiting the winner of their Feature while the WISSOTA Pure Stocks and Hornets will be racing for a $125 payouts. Extra Money and contingency awards from other sponsors are usually announced during the week as well. Sponsorships were added right up to race night last season.
