Chateau Speedway (Lansing, MN)  8/3/2021                                                         Matthew Grage

Track Champions for 2021 were to be finalized Friday Night at Chateau Speedway as Season Championship Night was scheduled.  Instead the Champions were crowned Friday Morning when The Track fell victim to rain for the seventh time this season.  Only twelve of the scheduled nineteen regular season races were run thanks to a run of wet Fridays this summer despite the so called drought conditions.  There are two features that didn’t get run three weeks ago, the Midwest Mod and B Mod Features were rained out and the Track has been rained out since.  How that will play out has yet to be determined and how it could affect those final standings in those two classes.

In the Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stock Class Kory Adams of Stacyville Iowa comes home with his 2nd straight Track Chamionship and his 5th in the last 7 years.  Kory now has Track Titles in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021.  The other two years in that stretch 2016 and 2019 he finished second.  Zach Elward of Hayfield finished second for the 2nd straight year after winning the Chamionship in 2019.  Jason Newkirk of Austin, Cody Hyatt of Waseca, and Kevin Vogt of Rose Creek rounded out the top five in the class for the year.

In Power 96 Pure Stocks Andrew Eischens of Taopi claimed his second straight Track Title ahead of Michael Wick of Faribault who had finished 3rd in points the last two seasons.  Kyndra Guttormson of Chatfield took third in points ahead of Bobby Crews of Austin and Jack Maas of Faribault.

Zach Korpi of Ellendale claimed his first Chateau Speedway Track Chamionship in the Skjeveland Sanitation and Roll Off Service WISSOTA Hornets in what was basically his Rookie Season at The Track,  Korpi ran one night in 2020 and came back to run a full season this year and found himself at the top of the heap at Seasons end.  After finishing 10th in his Rookie Season last year Brian Schott of Red Wing moved up to 2nd this year.  Timothy Barnett of Owatonna, Shawn Poston of Red Wing and Daniel Bjonfald of Bloomington made up the rest of the top five.

Pending the completion of there feature from 3 weeks ago it appears Kadden Kath of Ellendale will claim his first Action Builders WISSOTA Midwest Modified Title although it will be his 4th overall Track Championship at Chateau Speedway.  After running in the Midwest Modified Class and finishing 5th in points in 2012 at Chateau, Kadden moved over to the USRA B Mod Class for eight years where he won three Track Titles (2013, 2017, and 2018) and finished second three other times.  Four time Track Champion Ryan Goergen of Stacyville Iowa is second in the Midwest Mod Class this Season.  Ryan who won titles in the class in 2016 and 2019 also had two titles in the IMCA Stock Car Class in 2011 and 2012.  Three time Midwest Modified Champion at Chateau Speedway Greg Pfeifer Jr of Austin sits third this season. The 21 year veteran had his titles in 2005, 2011 and 2012.  Jeremy Misgen of New Richland and Luke Hainka of Wannamingo rounded out the top five.

USRA B Mods are being lead for the third year in a row by Noah Grinstead of Austin again pending the one feature that is still in limbo.   Zach Elward is currently matching his 2nd place points finish in the Street Stock class in his B Mod as he pulled double duty all year.  Highlight of the season for Zach was week two, May 15th when he pulled off the rare feat of winning features in two different classes in one night as he took the Street Stock and B Mod Main Events.  Record books show it was done at least one other time at Chateau Speedway.  During the Mike Guttormson Memorial on May 23rd 2014 Cory Crapser of Chippewa Falls Wisconsin double dipped with Feature wins in the Midwest Modified and B Mod Classes.    3rd in Points for 2021 in the B Mods is Cole Lonergan of Dexter who moved up from 6th in points last year looking for his best career showing.  Hunter Kennedy of St Ansgar Iowa and Caleb Korpi of Claremont made up the final two spots in the top five.

Jason Cummins of New Richland added another notch to his belt as he collected his 2nd straight Track Championship and his 6th overall.  Jason has titles from 2010, 2011, 2016, 2017, 2020, and now 2021.  Jacob Stark of Austin posted his career best points finish by coming in Runner-up in the points chase.  Doug Hillson of Blooming Prairie, the 2009 Champion at Chateau Speedway finished third this year ahead of Ryan Wetzstein of West Concord. Kylie Kath of Claremont, a four time Track Champion (2009 Pure Stock, 2012, 2015, 2016 USRA B Mod) rounded out the top five for the class.

Despite the Track Champions being decided racing for the 2021 Season is not completed at Chateau Speedway. With all the rainouts this year, most notable the “Spirit of 83” event which was rained out twice, and the B Mod Challenge Event which was rained out this year The Track is going to still try and get those events in. They will combine the two next weekend, Friday September 10th and Saturday Night September 11th.  Friday Night will Feature the “Spirit of 83” event with the 23rd running of the $2500 to win Mike Guttormson Memorial A Mod Main Event.  WISSOTA, USRA and IMCA Mods will all be running for the big dollars.  The night will also be night one of the B Mod Challenge event featuring the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and USRA B Mods.   All 6 of the Tracks regular classes will be competing in complete shows each night for National Points but there will be one extra feature at the end of the night Saturday,  The Track will take the top 7 cars from the two different sanctioning bodies, The WISSOTA Midwest Mods and the USRA B Mods, based on points earned over the two nights, and combine them along with two Provisionals in a non-points Challenge Event Feature for bragging rights.  Increased purses and Bonus money and payouts will make it for a spectacular two nights of racing action.

The Two day 4th Annual Autumn Extravaganza is also on the schedule yet for the first weekend of October.  That will be another Friday/Saturday two night event for National Points for all 6 classes.
