Regular Racing Season ends with exciting weekend of action at Chateau Speedway

September 13, 2021

The 65th Anniversary Season of Racing at Chateau Speedway ended for the year over the weekend with two exciting nights of stock car racing action.  There will be two Enduro’s still on the schedule starting with one this Saturday and another in October.   The Fall Extravaganza which was to end the season October 1 and 2 had to be cancelled because of conflicts so this last weekends action put a wrap on action for The Tracks regular classes.

Friday Night they were finally able to run the “Spirit of 83 Memorial” which runs in memory of former Track Champion Mike Guttormson.  It was the 23rd running of the event which had been postponed twice this year because of rain but the wait was worth it.  Adam Hensel of Baldwin Wisconsin put on a display of speed an driving in the $2500 to win main event as he streaked to the lead and had lapped up to 10th place in the 28 car field before a caution came out with six laps remaining.  Hensel made the car stick any where he wanted on the track as he passed cars high and low without missing a beat.   The late caution allowed Albert Lea’s Kevin Stoa to close up on him for the run to the checkers put Hensel quickly distanced himself again as he pocketed the big pay check and capped off a perfect night as he also grabbed a win in his heat.  Charlie Steinberg of Kasson and Jason Cummins of New Richland along with Stoa took the classes other heats.

In the USRA B Mods Ben Moudry of Protivin Iowa made his first appearance at the track a winning one as he swept to wins in his heat and feature events.  Taylor Ausrud of Hayfield, Jett Sorensen of Rochester, and Michael Johnson of Austin took heat wins with Kullen Kath of Owatonna grabbing a win in the Consy Event.

Kadden Kath of Ellendale added to his win total in the Action Builders WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds as he grabbed the feature win after also scoring a heat win to start the night.  Jake Smith of St Joseph grabbed a heat win along with Charlie Zander of Byron.

Also adding to his Feature win total on the year was Zach Elward in the Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stock Class.  Elward scored a sweep as he also picked up a heat win as did Jason Newkirk of Austin.

Skjeveland Sanitation and Roll off Service Hornets were lead by Brian Schott of Red Wing who grabbed the Feature win on Friday Night and than backed it up with another one on Saturday Night.   Heat winners Friday were Shawn and Maison Poston of Red Wing with Shawn grabbing a second heat win on Saturday Night.

In Power 96 Pure Stocks Andrew Eischens of Taopi scored a pair of feature wins on the weekend along with one heat win on Friday.  Bobby Crews of Austin had a heat win on Friday Night while Jack Paulson of Morristown and Troy Maas of Faribault took heat win on Saturday.

There were several first time Feature winners on Saturday Night.  Ty Agen of Chippewa Falls Wisconsin was visiting The Track for the first time this year and scored a Feature win in the Street Stock Class.  The Saturday night heat winners were Elward and Cole Richards of Mondovi Wisconsin.

For Jake Stark of Austin it was his first career Feature win in the French’s Repair USRA A Mods with Cory Crapser of Chippewa Falls Wisconsin and Cummins taking the heat wins.

Jake Smith, who had a heat win on Friday night took home the feature win on Saturday night in the Midwest Modifieds in his first visits to the track this year.  Heat wins went to Trevis Underdahl of Northfield, Patrick McCarthy of Bloomington, and Christopher Deno of Kasson.

USRA B Mods saw Trevor Fecht of Allison Iowa get his first win of the year at Chateau in his fist weekend on the track with a dominating performance in the main event backing up his heat win from earlier in the night.  Tianna Mithun of New Richland and Erick Thill of Rochester also had heat wins.

Along with it being the “Spirit of 83 Memorial” Friday Night it was a “B Mod Challenge Weekend”.  The top cars from the two nights in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and the USRA B Mods were matched up for a non sanctioned-non points $600 to win race to end the night.  Another first time feature winner went to victory lane as Brody Shaw of Brownsdale lead the way for the “B Mods”.
