The 66th season of racing action came to a conclusion Friday at Chateau Speedway powered by Garlick’s Water. While the track will be used by SMP Promotions this fall for a pair of enduros, the regular classes of cars saw their final laps this weekend.
The night's action, sponsored by Coles Electric and Joe Vogt Custom Pumping, saw four of the six classes on hand for the special season finale with a couple drivers waiting until the last night to score their first feature wins of the year.
Making just his second showing at the track, Brady Krohnberg of Walters —made it a strong one as he scored a sweep with his first wins of the year in the Power 96 Pure Stocks. After leading flag to flag in his heat, he worked from row two to the front on lap four and held off Jack Maas of Faribault for the win. Jack Paulson of Morristown, who had the other heat in in the class, came home in third.
In Skjeveland Sanitation USRA Stock Cars, Jackson Vsetecka of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, made his first trip to Chateau Speedway a memorable one as he picked up the feature win. Running second most of the race he worked to the front with just four laps to go to take the win. Dan Mackenthun of Hamburg and Lynn Panos of Calmer, Iowa, had the heat wins.
Dustin Brown of Thorton, Iowa, made it look easy as he scored a pair of wins in the French’s Repair USRA Modifieds as he led every lap of his heat and feature to sweep the class for the night. He finished with big leads, including nearly a half-track lead in the feature to leave everyone in the dust. Darwin Karau took the other heat win for the class.
In Double M Transport USRA B-Mod action Kobie Kath of Owatonna came home with the feature win in the final race of the night and of the season. Jayme Hiller of Waseca, Zach Elward of Hayfield and Gage Motl of Owatonna all grabbed heat wins.
Chateau Speedway will hold its awards banquet on Saturday, December 10, at Lansing Corners Supper Club. Contact the track for reservations.
Next Saturday at 4 p.m., SMP Promotions will use the facility for their season championship enduro race featuring compacts and full-size classes. They will also use the track for a final enduro on Saturday, October 8.
Tentatively, the 2023 season will get underway Friday, May 5, with a test 'n' tune during the week leading up to the season opener.
